Regarding Matthew, it’s not that he’s been quoted saying he may leave or anything of the sort. It’s simply that his current contract expires at the end of this season, which as been public knowledge for quite some time. It’s the same as it was with Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore last spring/summer, their contracts were up for renewal. They had to go through negotiations to reach an agreement satisfactory to the actors and CM/CBS. Now it’s Matthew’s turn. Today, one of the crew of CM tweeted this:
Linda De Andrea
So far, yes. He’s enjoying directing #719 RT Very sad and now I’m worried about Matthew too….is he coming back?
Obviously, this could change. Nothing is certain until his contract is renewed. Yes, I’m personally somewhat more concerned about Matthew renewing his contract in light of Paget’s departure and I would be devastated if he left since he’s the reason I watch the show, but I’m just trying to clarify that, to my knowledge, there has been nothing reported that suggests that Matthew is all of a sudden any more or less ready to leave CM than he was yesterday or last month.
As for CM’s renewal. It’s the same type of thing. No, it hasn’t been renewed yet, but many shows don’t get renewed until spring/summer, so this is nothing unusual. It has good ratings and is very likely to get renewed, so it’s way too early to panic.
I’m sad that Paget is leaving, but I certainly can’t blame her and wish her the very best. As for the rest, let’s take a deep breath and not let today’s upsetting news about Paget cause us to jump to premature conclusions about what it means for MGG and CM. Let’s just hope for the best and see what happens. In the meantime, I’d personally just like to focus on enjoying the fact that Matthew’s currently directing “Heathridge Manor” and I’m very much looking forward to seeing it.
